Amazing news!!

Katie has been breathing on her own for the last hour and a half! All they are providing her with is some gas. So far so good. The respiratory therapist said he will leave her breathing on her own till rounds to let them monitor. He defined it as weaning! He said if it were up to him he'd wait till tomorrow to extubate but it's not up to him so we'll see what the docs say today! Her diaphragm and intercostal muscles have to strengthen significantly still but breathing on her own is how that happens. When they asked her to take a deep breath it was still weak but she is on her way folks!
