I arrived for the night shift about 10:30, and Vickie was with Katie. Katie had been bathed, and told everyone not to put the gown back on. She was hot! They had towels draped over her, and a cool wash rag on her head. But, I don't think Katie was hot because of any problems with temperature. I think we are starting to deal with the one oops moment when women were created: their thermostats!
Katie's temperature goes up and down, and but seems to be trending in the right direction. No problems last night.
Katie was pretty agitated the night before last night due to being uncomfortable it appeared. Last night, and it appeared to be quite different. She seemed more restful.
They clamped her drainage chest tube yesterday, and unclamped it last night. It is draining again, but in small quantity. They believe the pressure from her lungs was putting pressure on her stomach, inhibiting GI movement. I think the doctors believe they can now control everything and that Katie can again be fed by stomach in small amounts.
Sometimes, Katie gets frustrated and communication breaks down. I told the nurse it seemed to me as if Katie was mentally "with it", but possibly some of her frustration is coming from not being 100% lucid. The nurse told me, from her interactions, Katie is "all there".
Good news again!
Larry
You are doing great Katie! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteIs Katie able to write things down or is talking understandably?
