As I was driving home I was realizing how things have changed and how for the time being we will have to change our thought process. For more than a week we were all desiring for her to be awake so intently. We wanted to see that she had brain function and we wanted to see her eyes! Now that she is not having trouble waking up we need her to go to sleep!!
The problem is that when we are with her she wants to communicate with us. When she tries to talk it is painful and uncomfortable. I realize it is her birthday tomorrow and asking to not visit is going to be tough for everybody involved. The best way that we can help her get out of the icu is for her to rest. It was easy for me to forget today that she has pneumonia still and that her brain needs sleep and rest to heal. I was so excited to see her eyes and her responses that I taxed her a little bit.
I am not going to say that nobody can visit tomorrow but I am going to be paying close attention to how much time she has had to rest and work with the nursing staff to keep her rested. If you want to swing by you can but if you will be offended if one of the family says you can't see her than you may want to send your birthday wishes and visit later. We appreciate your understanding in this matter and wish it weren't this way!

Big birthday hugs and love from Cooper, Stetson, Danette, Chad, and Tonka!
ReplyDeleteMy dearest birthday girl! I love you love you love you!! If I could I'd be there myself to give you a giant birthday smooch...and massage your hands like we used to do in church! :) I am so very thankful for you and that God has given us more time with you! Let me tell you, I definitely missed your calmness during all this! You're normally the sane one!! I am trying to figure out if and when I should try to fly out. I'll be talking with Richard and your family about when they think would be good. Have a wonderful, peaceful Birthday rest and know you're well prayed for and loved!

I do not know Katie but she is a friend of my wife a co-worker at the school. Our prayers are with you and her and hope for a full recovery. She is a lovely lady from what I hear from Birdie (wife) and we wish her the best.
