I just spoke with the resident and got a lot of clarification and good info:
-She remains on the bed because his attending physician felt it was better to be cautious for another 24 hours because it's not fully positive that her improved lung functioning and oxygenation is due to her own improvements as opposed to the bed's benefits. She will remain supine and visible now but will tilt slightly until tomorrow. He confirmed for me that this was entirely a medical decision and not related to protocol from the bed manufacturers as I had believed from talking to the nurses.
-Katie's fever is diminished. They treated her as if she had a lung infection but won't have cultures back for a number of days. They are not even treating fever with Tylenol at this point because it's basically gone.
-Kidney function remains unchanged from yesterday - suggesting that she was always at baseline and not impaired.
-Echocardiogram would not be repeated for more like a week or more.
-Eye movement IS a good sign. It doesn't mean (obviously) that all motor systems are intact but does demonstrate the brain starting to increase motor activity.
-Tomorrow will now be the soonest we know something definite about neuro factors.
Katie is now visible from chest to neck, but her head remains in a helmet-looking thing in order to hold her steady when she tilts.
I think that's it for now.
